LUG-ALL Hoists Warnings:
LUG-ALL web strap hoists are NOT insulating live-line tools. When the hoist’s strap is clean and dry, it may have dielectric properties typical of nylon or polyester fibers; however, when it becomes wet and/or dirty, the strap loses these dielectric properties.
Use appropriate insulating hot sticks in series with web strap hoist hot-stick rings when necessary to achieve proper working distance per OSHA Regulation Subpart V, 1926.950 or company work practices. When the hoist handle swings closer to an energized conductor than OSHA working distances or company work practices permit, use rubber gloves rated for appropriate voltage.
To Avoid Personal Injury or Equipment Damage:
- Do not use if web strap is twisted, kinked, frayed, or damaged.
- Do not use to lift people, or loads over people.
- Do not leave an unattended load suspended in the air.
- Do not lengthen, or make any substitution for the LUG-ALL reversible handle.

Organizational Measures
JDN hoists are designed in accordance with current technological standards and accepted safety practice. Nonetheless, the use of an air hoist may be associated with risk of injury or fatality to the user or to third parties or with the risk of damage to the hoist or to other items, if safety rules are disregarded.
All personnel charged with operating air hoists must have read and understood the operation manual, especially the section entitled “Rules for safe operation of hoists”, before commencing work. This is particularly important for personnel who only occasionally operate the hoist, e.g. for maintenance or retrofitting work.
Operators of JDN hoists are also under obligation to ensure safe and hazard-free operation. This can be achieved through the following measures:
- Keep the operation manuals available at the hoist operating site
- Carry out regular training
- Perform regular inspections (at least once annually)
- Implement an inspection log and make regular entries
- Regularly check personnel for safety and hazard awareness during work
Personnel Safety
Ensure that only properly trained personnel are entrusted with operation, maintenance, inspection and repair.
“Properly trained” in this case means that the operator has appropriate training and experience in working with hoists. They are sufficiently familiar with the relevant occupational safety and accident prevention regulations that they are able to assess the condition of hoists with regard to working safety.

- Comply with the accident prevention regulations.
- Ensure that you are properly informed regarding working with hazardous materials.

Safety instructions for operating the hoist:
- Read all the instructions supplied with the hoist. The hoist operator must be familiar with the instructions and follow them.
- The hoist operator must be competent for the task, must know all the controls of the hoist and must be able to use them correctly and safely.
- The hoist operator must know how to operate the hoist and must be aware of any risk of accident posed by the operating site.
- Learn how to operate the hoist in safe conditions before actually starting to work with the hoist. Learn how to control the movements of the hook and load. Use the Hoist Owner’s Manual to familiarize yourself with the hoist and hoist controls.
- Familiarize yourself with the signs and warnings marked on the hoist. The direction symbols for hoist motions are the same as the symbols marked on the pushbutton controller. Check the direction symbols in the Hoist Owner’s Manual.
- Learn the hand signals for indicating hoisting motion, trolley traversing and crane travel. The hoist operator should only accept hand signals from a person authorized to give them.
- Ensure that there is adequate lighting as well as proper tools and equipment for the working site, and that appropriate working procedures are established.

- The wire rope must be in good condition to ensure safe, correct operation of the unit. Discard any wire rope which shows any signs of excess wear or damage. The condition of the wire rope should be checked each time before using the unit as detailed in the “wire rope” section.
- When the unit is not being used, it should be stored in a location inaccessible to persons not authorized to use the unit.
- When using the unit, the operator must ensure that the wire rope remains constantly tensioned by the load, and more particularly, the operator must ensure that the load is not temporarily snagged by an obstacle when coming down as this could result in rupture of the wire rope when the load is released from its obstacle.
- If the unit is to be definitively removed from use, make sure the unit is discarded in a way which will prevent any possible use of the unit. All environment protection regulations must be observed.
