Crane Electrification
Cable festoons, conductor bars, or cable reels are used to transfer power from the building supply to the crane runway and bridge crane control panel. The same components are then used to supply power across the bridge to the hoist trolley. An operator controls the movement of the crane and hoist via push button pendants or radio remote controls. All of these components combined allow the bridge and hoist to move into position over the load. Once the load is lifted, the push button pendant or radio remote control are used to drive the bridge crane to its destination and lower the load. Many different factors can play into selecting the appropriate electrification system for an overhead crane. During the consultation process, an overhead crane manufacturer will work with you to determine which system is best for your needs, by considering the following:
- Type of crane: bridge, gantry, monorail, jib?
- What is being powered: bridge, trolley, runway, below-the-hook device?
- Operating environment: dusty/dirty, temperature, moisture, corrosive?
- Duty cycle and usage of the crane?
- Any special considerations for access/installation, or future maintenance?
Conductor Bar Systems & Cable Reels
Conductix-Wampfler is a manufacturer of Conductor Bar Systems for crane electrification and other mobile equipment. Conductor bar is a safe and economical method to solve mobile electrification requirements. Conductix-Wampfler was the first to offer “8-bar” insulated conductor bar for crane electrification in the US. Now you can choose from six unique systems for virtually any need from 100 to 1,500 amperes and more. Conductix-Wampfler manufactures the brands you have trusted for the past 60 years: Insul-8, Wampfler and Saf-T-Bar—now part of the Conductix-Wampfler conductor bar family.Conductix-Wampfler is also a major manufacturer of Spring-Driven Cable Reels designed for the demands of the industrial market. Conductix-Wampfler has been designing and building reels since 1945 under the names Industrial Electric Reels and Insul-8 Corporation, and now as Conductix-Wampfler. Their brands include Industrial Electric Reels (IER), Spring-O-Matic, PowerReel®, and now Wampfler. They offer hundreds of standard configurations and designs, and build more custom designs than anyone.
Magnetek knows the safety and performance of your overhead material handling system are top priorities. That’s why they proudly introduce the Electrobar® FS Conductor Bar System for electrification of cranes, monorails and automated storage and retrieval systems.
