Mazzella’s Steel Mill Program
Our 40 plus years of steel mill experience and expertise has taught us that delivery of the right product, to the right specs, at the right time makes a huge difference for our customers.
Mazzella’s Downtown Cleveland Service Center is a short drive from some of the largest steel mills and processing plants in Ohio, including Cleveland-Cliffs, which is one of the oldest steel enterprises in North America.
This is why we carry a significant amount of customer-specific inventory to meet the unique wire rope applications for individual cranes and equipment in each of our steel customers’ facilities. When critical equipment goes down, we offer 24/7 emergency responsiveness for critical crane cables.
We also offer the following services to our steel customers:
Exact & Matched Crane Cables – a documented ISO procedure allows us to provide exact and matched crane cables to our steel customers with guaranteed accuracy for ease of installation.
Mazzella Ready Stock™ Program – our Ready Stock™ program eliminates the need for our customers to purchase replacement wire rope inventory prior to a specific need. This process improves cash flow, eliminates damage to ropes during storage, and reduces overall and inventory carrying costs.
Wire Rope Surveys – our team will come on-site and work with your team to assess the critical ropes and cables you’re using on your cranes and machinery. We’ll help identify opportunities to:
- Improve wire rope service life
- Reduce labor time during installation
- Reduce on-site inventory of backup wire rope
- Assure proper inventory levels
Inspection Services – OSHA overhead crane inspections, OSHA sling inspections, and inspections of fall protection equipment and below-the-hook lifting devices
One-Stop-Shop – traditional rigging products, engineered lifting devices, overhead cranes, overhead crane service, parts, training, and more!
At the Forefront of Steel Mill Technology
We know that our steel mill customers have been trying to stay ahead of evolving industry standards and best practices, with one of them being adapting no touch technology in their processes.
Thankfully, Mazzella offers several no touch tools to keep your workers away from pinch points and loads in general. Some of our more popular options include the:
Elebia Automatic Crane Hook
The Elebia auto hook is a lithium ion battery-powered, automatic crane hook that allows for the remote attachment and release of loads.
Whether it’s the melt shop, hot mills, pickling lines, roll mills, pig lines, or shipping, Elebia hooks are now found in every stage of the steelmaking process. Some of the more common applications include lifting:
- Electrodes
- Furnace components
- Raw materials
- Tundish and scrap buckets
- Aluminum beams
- Heavy bags
And thanks to the Elebia hook’s remote control options, operators can now lift loads from over 450 feet away, eliminating repetitive and grueling manual labor.
Electrode Recovery Tongs
This heavy-duty tong is designed for the recovery of a broken electrode column. The unit is held open by a bump link and will grip the column from true horizontal to semi-vertical.
Graphite Lift Plugs
Graphite lift plugs are designed for vertical transportation of electrodes to and from the furnace. These devices enable the operator to leave the device on the column during furnace operation.
Cleveland Certified Rigging Inspections
Not keeping up with your rigging inspections is not only a violation of OSHA and ASME standards, but it also creates a serious safety risk for your workers.
Thankfully, Mazzella employs certified inspectors that can provide documented rigging inspections that meet or exceed OSHA and ASME requirements. We also provide personal fall protection inspections, inspections of below-the-hook lifting devices, and basic level NDT inspections to support our visual inspections.
About Mazzella
